Haaland Donates Rare Manuscript to Hometown

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has donated a rare 16th-century manuscript containing a Viking epic to his hometown in Norway. This gesture adds a new chapter to the biography of Norway's all-time top scorer, as the 25-year-old prepares to lead his national team to its first World Cup in 28 years this June. Haaland and his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, purchased the 1594 manuscript from historian and poet Snorri Sturluson at a public auction in December for 1.3 million Norwegian kroner ($133,636), setting a national record for book sales, according to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) on Tuesday. Haaland ensured the manuscript would remain in his hometown so that residents could read the historical stories linked to their roots. "I am living my dream, but unfortunately, this dream is only available to a few," Haaland said, as reported by Norwegian media. The volume, which documents the history of medieval Northern kings, will be permanently displayed at the local library in the municipality of Time.
