NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced on Wednesday that member countries are holding talks on the 'best way' to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large part of global oil supplies usually passes. 'What I know is that allies are working together, discussing how to do it and what is the best way,' Rutte said at a press conference during a visit to NATO exercises in northern Norway. US President Donald Trump earlier urged allies to send warships to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has been blocking almost entirely since the start of the American-Israeli war. 'We all agree, of course, on the need to reopen the strait,' Rutte added.
