Norwegian PM Receives Message from Trump on Greenland

The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store, announced on Monday in a statement that he had received a text message from U.S. President Donald Trump and reiterated his country's position on Greenland, a territory that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Therefore, Norway 'fully supports the Kingdom of Denmark in this matter.' Trump's message was sent in response to a previous message from Store and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who had expressed their opposition to the announcement of tariff increases and mentioned the need for de-escalation. In his statement, Store also spoke about the Nobel Peace Prize: 'I made it clear, even to President Trump, that it is well known that the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee and not by the Norwegian government,' he stated. According to local media reports, in his text message to Store, Trump mentioned Norway's decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize for what the president described as 'stopping eight wars,' and said that 'I no longer feel the obligation to think only about peace' and added that he could now 'think about what is good and appropriate' for the United States. Trump also said that since the creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the United States has contributed more than any other country to the organization, so 'now NATO must do something for the United States.' Furthermore, he asserted that 'complete and total control of Greenland' by the United States is the only way to guarantee global security.
