Explosion near US Embassy in Oslo: Norway police investigate incident

The Norwegian police have launched a thorough investigation following an explosion outside the US Embassy in Oslo, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East due to the war with Iran.

The incident, which occurred during the early morning hours, caused a 'loud bang' that alerted residents and mobilized local security forces. Officials confirmed minor damage to an entrance at the diplomatic mission, although no injuries were reported.

The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) has mobilized additional personnel following the event and decided to maintain the Scandinavian country's current terrorist threat level, according to communications advisor Martin Bernsen.

Material damage at the US Embassy

Due to the severity of the situation, police deployed dogs, drones, and helicopters to secure the area and rule out the presence of other dangerous objects.

According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), despite the high alert surrounding US diplomatic missions worldwide, the head of emergency response, Mikael Dellemyr, stated that there is no proven link yet between the attack and the current conflict.

'It is too early to make such a hypothesis,' the official clarified, emphasizing that 'initially, there was no known threat against the embassy' in the days prior.

In turn, the Norwegian government expressed its outrage through the Minister of Justice and Emergency Situations, Astri Aas-Hansen. The official described the incident as 'unacceptable' and assured that significant resources are being used to find those responsible.

'Nothing indicates that the situation poses any danger to the public,' Aas-Hansen told the NTB agency to reassure the capital's residents.

The explosion comes at a time of heightened international sensitivity, with security measures at Washington's delegations being reinforced due to the volatility of the war in the Middle East.
